Holy Crap! We're almost there!

I love watching this countdown get lower and lower...I'm so excited!

Some more info to note:

- There is no Tim Hortons in Paisley or surrounding area, so be sure to pack an easy breakfast for Saturday that doesn't involve any major cooking. Premade stuff is probably best since you know how hectic it is Saturday morning starting the trip out. Muffins, granola, yogurt, etc..something easy is recommended.

- Dave and Lori have also booked a campsite, so we now have sites 7, 9, 10 and 500. This should leave us plenty of room for all campers. Please make sure that I will have a spot to park my van for the night on one of the sites since it will be serving as Lori's and my tent for the night and we'd rather not sleep in the parking lot that Aimee mentioned.

- I expect to arrive mid evening, so if you get there before Mike and I, just say you are with one of the above campsites. Maybe mention we are all in a group together when you get there.

- Please make sure you have cash on hand to pay for camping (directly to Jenn, Rob or Dave & Lori), shirts (directly to Jenn) and canoes (directly to Mike).

- As much as I hate to say it....don't forget your rainsuit. :(

- I am more excited to say...don't forget your PUSS! I have two 40's ready to be passed.

3 days!!

Almost there! Yeehaw!

Some info that might be helpful:

- Rob has booked a 3rd campsite. We are apparently allowed only 2 tents per site, but I was told 6 people per site. Lori and I are sleeping in my van, so that is one less tent. If need be we will book a 4th site as they are so cheap anyway.

- When you enter the Bluffs, ask for the Bowers sites or Bergey sites. Remember we are sites numbers 7, 9 and 500. We will have to pay $10 for every extra vehicle per site, and I think they only will allow for a couple vehciles on the sites as well, so we all can't park there more than likely. I suggest some people arrange to leave vehicles already at the dam Friday night and bring only what you need back to the Bluffs for the night and leave your gear in your vehicles over night at the dam. I iwll drive people in the morning, so don't worry about that.

- We are putting in the River a bit further along than in the past. We lose about 1/2 hr of paddle time. I'm attaching a map of where we launch in comparision to where Paisley is.

"A" is the Bluffs where we will be camping.

"B" is where we launch. It's the first bridge we normally encounter.

Note Paisley in the bottom right corner, which is where we would have launched in previous years. We basically just cut out the big loop arund before we hit the first bridge.

This is an overhead view of the difference in launches. A is previous years, B is our new launch.

Tshirts and camping

OK, so the shirts are ordered. Thanks to everyone for your patience in me being so late on them this year.

We need to know who will be camping on Friday night because there are some rules we need to adhere to with the sites, plus we will not be allowed to have a ton of vehicles there. I am guessing many of you will be there before Mike and I will be, so when arriving, please tell them you are with Mike or Jenn Bowers' sites, #9 and #7.

We will have to send some vehicles to the dam that night, so we will figure it all out when we arrive. We will also have to be careful about how many tets we put up becausd we technically are only supposed to have 6 people per site, so if we all camp, we are 8 people over the limit!

We will have to purchase firewood there as they do not allow us to bring in our own anymore. We will also have to pay $10 for each extra vehicle, so we will figure that out as well when we get there to see who should leave their vehicles for carpooling to the dam in the morning. Lori and I are slepping in the van at the Bluffs, so we can cram in gear and people in the morning.

This is a new system since we have never camped before and we are using a different canoe company, so we should be better at this part of the organizing next year!

Please register for the trip!

To make it easier to keep track of who's coming, I have created a registration page. This is separate from registering for the site. It will allow for us to know if you are camping or not, and to keep an updated list of who is coming each year.

Please register today!

Saugeen Bluffs are booked!

Hey everyone,

I booked our campsites for Friday night yesterday. We have campsites #7 and #9. You can see where we are here. We are about a 1 minute walk from showers and bathrooms, and are backing right along the river.

We are only allowed to have 2 vehicles per site, so some of us will more than likely have to park down at Denny's Dam the and get shuttled back, which will work out well because we will have to get the vehicles there anyway with our new system. They are booked under mine and Mike's names.

The total cost will be around $100, which is nothing when you divide it by how many people will be camping. I've already prepaid the sites, we will just have some incidentals when we get there (2 extra vehicles and we will have to buy wood...see more infomation on the site...there is a link under "Links" on this site).

So everything is now booked, so all we have to do is register who is coming...we will start a thread for registration following this one!

A new era of River Runners and how we interact!

Life is full of change, and I guess it's no surprise that the face of the River Run is changing too.

With the closing of The Greater Saugeen Trading Co., we have been forced to find a new company to provide us with our canoes. We will now be renting our canoes from Thorncrest Outfitters, which is just down the street from Trading Co.

With this new company we'll also see a shift in how we are shuttled back and forth from the end of the river. More on that later.

With Burger moving on from the farm, we were suddenly also having to find a new pre-party area and meeting spot for Friday night. What Mike and I have decided is best is to rent 2 camping spaces at the Saugeen Bluffs Conservation Area. This is the campground we pass early on the Run. We decided this spot would be best because then we are already closer to Paisley in the morning and we can also go and drop off some vehicles at Denny's Dam Friday night or Saturday morning. This was our best choice because we still will have access to showers, and pets are welcome, so anyone that brings their dogs on the trip are OK.

Yes, it is a little more money spent, but for probably around $150-$200 or so for two campsites when you include all the fees and stuff, divide that by the group and it's minimal expense for us. Those living closer to the area can also simply meet us on Saturday morning.

Lastly, I welcome comments on the new site and how we interact. Membership to the site allows for you to sign in and make comments, add friends of the site and post on their profiles. You can also upload your very own photo albums, which saves me from collecting pics from everyone!

I am still in the process of transferring over information that is important from the old forums, so look in the next little while for the site to finally be fully functional. I am playing around with the idea of a new design style, but I welcome any comments on that. If you like it the way it is, let me know!

The end of an era

I discovered today that the Greater Saugeen Trading Company has closed its doors. This company has provided us with our booze barges for many years now, and it will be sad to see them go. Stay tuned on who will replace them.

Also, Rob has moved and we will not be raisin' hell on the farm for the pre-party. Rest assured, we will be raisin' hell in our pre-party still, we are just not sure if it will be at Rob's new house or at another location. Looks like it is a year of change for the SRRCA team. Look for a new format for this website, coming soon, too!

Countdown until the pre-party at ???

122 DAYS!
